I've royally FUDGED it - Help!

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:13

I made fudge last night - I don't have a sugar thermometer.
I have made successful fudge before but this time it hasn't set.

Think warm molasses in consistency.
I don't want to bin it, what can I do/use it for?

Help!

Topping for vanilla ice cream.

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 24/12/2012 10:17

My fudge didn't set into a nice slice-able slab, but I could roll it in cocoa and vermicelli instead, would that be possible?

Could you frost cupcakes with it?

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:17

oooo nice but I have a HUGE tub of it.

Different banoffee pie?

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 24/12/2012 10:20

Could you make a Yule log and put it inside instead of cream?

Ruprekt · 24/12/2012 10:22

Serve with christmas pud!

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:23

It has white chocolate and minstrels in it.
I've never made banoffee pie, is it hard? - love the yule log idea but I have minus time to do it and would definitely probably screw that up too.

Cheesecake type thing?

dessert fondue!

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/12/2012 10:24

Fudge Cheese cake?

You could always freeze it, cut it up frozen. Keep next to an ice pack, give out as a gift and then blame the recipient for poor Fudge care when it all melts.

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn · 24/12/2012 10:24

HOW runny is it?

Make a biscuit base and put on top, stick in freezer for a bit to firm up?

Or just bung in freezer to make ice cream.

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:25

It's like room temp Nutella

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/12/2012 10:25

Your runny fudge has minstrels and white chocolate?

Here's my recipie for fudge cheese cake.

  1. Go to ASDA
  2. Buy a cheap cheese cake.
  3. Pour the fudge onto it.

It would also make a wonderful, if a bit sickly, layer for a trifle.

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:26

Actually fudge cheesecake does sound a bit grim, enjoying the idea of freezing it and handing it over and watching it melt

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 24/12/2012 10:27

I would put it on a biscuit base and make it into a pudding.

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:29

@SavoyCabbage

I would put it on a biscuit base and make it into a pudding.

Cream on top? It would be very very sweet

OP posts:
KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/12/2012 10:29

Would that be a ?

Icing a cake with it sounds like a good idea.

I'm really the wrong person to ask. The closest I've got to any kind of baking or making stuff is using one of those packets you get where you just need to add water.

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:30

Keema, you're a genius Xmas Grin

LordFlasheartsCrackingNuts · 24/12/2012 10:32

Biscuit base, add fudge stuff, top with sliced bananas & whipped cream, grate a bit of choc over the top = banoffee pie.

LordFlasheartsCrackingNuts · 24/12/2012 10:32

Oh, you can freeze at the biscuit base/fudge stuff stage, and top with bananas/whipped cream later.

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 24/12/2012 10:33

Make a Banoffee pie with it

Call it Bafudgey pie and pretend like you meant it all along :)

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 24/12/2012 10:35

Bafudgey. Grin

RebeccaTheHallsMumsnet · 24/12/2012 10:36

How do I make a good biscuit base? Blush

Love Bafudgey pie I may add to recipes Xmas Wink

BlatherskitedaboutChristmas · 24/12/2012 10:40

Buy digestive/gingernut biscuits. Annihilate in a food processor before adding melted butter. Press into a loose bottomed cake tin and pop in the fridge to set.

MrsMangoGingerbreadhouse · 24/12/2012 10:40

Hmm, I think I'd try salvaging it as fudge. Maybe try adding icing sugar to a small portion of it, mix well and see if it thickens enough?
