Aga Christmas cake - how long?

We have recently moved and this is my first Christmas with an Aga. I have done 2 Xmas cakes - one large 8" square and one small rectangular (for my mother).

The Aga book says 13 hours or so for the big deep one (in the bottom oven @ 100 degrees) but how long for the smaller one and how will I know when it is cooked?

Test it. I should check it at about 6 hours with a skewer and gauge it from there. Push the skewer in, leave it in for about 10 seconds and then pull it out. If it comes out clean, then the cake is done.

Thanks - the smaller one was done after about 8 hours (and tastes yummy) but the big one has been in for 24 hours and skewer is still not coming out clean - is that normal?

Recipes differ, and you are cooking at a very low temperature (nothing wrong with that). By the time I have typed this, it will be 47hrs from when you started, so it should be well done by now!

lol thanks :) Took it out after about 26 hrs when DD came home from school and told me it was the soggy fruit marking the skewer! HAve added copious quantities of booze so even if oversooked should still taste OK Wine

If all fails, zap slices of it in the microwave and have with custard!
