Mince Pies - Tin Trays

babysbreath · 16/12/2012 11:25

I am just about to roll out my pastry for the mince pies, what tin trays do I use? Is it the ones for fairy cakes or a deeper one for muffins?

Thank you

I use the ones for fairy cakes.

Fairy cakes. A couple of cm deep, no more or you'll have trouble getting them out.

Thank you for your replies, I went with the fairy tin.

I thought I rolled the pastry really thin, but when they were cooked the pastry seemed quite thick and heavy!

What pastry did you use. I use www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/startoppedmincepies_90618

I used a delia online recipe and halved all the ingredients, it was then meant to make 12 but I only got eight out of the pastry! Xmas Confused

This is the one I used:

delia smith

Any help on where I went wrong would be appreciated.

I use this recipe, adding an egg yolk to the mixture and baking for an extra five or ten minutes, works really well.
