How do I make a vegetable stock with no added salt suitable for baby food?

  • forgot to pick up the stock cubes whilst shopping today so it'll be next week before I get a chance to pick some more up.

can you make your own with some carrots onions maybe a turnip and some bay leaves and a few peppercorns?

This is from the Annabel Karmel book:

makes about 900ml/1.5 pints

1 onion peeled
1 carrot scrubbed
1 celery stalk
175g/6oz mixed root veg (swede, turnip, parsnip etc) peeled

25g/1oz butter
1 bayleaf
6 black peppercorns

Chop all the veg. Melt butter in a large saucepan and saute onions for 5 mins. Add the remaining ingredients and cover with 900ml/1.5pts water. Bring to boil, simmer for about an hour. Strain off and discard the veg. Use the flavoured water as stock.

I used to freeze it in little tubs or ice cube trays.

Don't use them - baby probably won't even notice.
