I'm 39 weeks pregnant but have a hankering for a roast dinner this weekend. Can't face standing in kitchen for long, can hardly reach counters to chop and prep food. DH doesn't really cook and anyway he's looking after the other 2DCs.

So give me your best cheating suggestions for the closest thing to a full roast dinner? Surely I can buy it virtually ready made and still tasty??? Please.

Get a packet of beef or turkey thick slices (for sandwiches) reheat in gravy. Cook frozen roast pots/parsnips and yorkshire puddings add frozen of choice.

Chuck in oven cook for about 30 - 40 mins.

Have you got a George Foreman grill thingy?
My dd used to adore roasts when she was small and I could have one done and ready in 30mins after I'd picked her up from the cm. Pork chops on the grill, frozen parsnips and roast potatoes into the oven, steam veg in the microwave and gravy made.

Failing that, go out :)

Buy sliced roast beef or meat of choice, the best quality you can afford from the deli/supermarket and reheat with gravy, bought gravy if necessary and then all ready prepared veggies. Voila :)

Whole roast chicken from the deli but at supermarket? Frozen roasties and yorkshires, whole carrots roasted, frozen peas microwaved. Either bisto or fresh ready made gravy.

Bit at supermarket

mosschops30 · 29/11/2012 16:08

Im doing one tonight

Chicken breasts (half hour in oven)
Stuffing (half hour in oven)
Frozen roasties (again same)
Frozen roast parsnips (same)
Frozen peas (6 mins in microwaves)
Tinned carrotts

Easy all done in 30mins Smile

Lovely. Thank for all those ideas. Great idea to do meat slices in gravy - don't even need to carve! Tummy rumbling at the thought...

If you want to be really lazy you can get an all in one frozen roast dinner.

Otherwise

Buy pot of gravy and sliced beef - or get a chicken from the bit in the supermarket that sells them warm.

Check the hot deli, you might get stuffing and roast potatoes already done.

Buy prepared veg in plastic bags.

When you get home (or when DP gets home from shopping for you)

If you have gone for the chicken option just leave it somewhere warm. If you have gone the sliced beef and gravy put that in a pan and heat.

If you have to do your own roasts then stick parboiled potatoes in a deep fat frier.

poke a few holes in the bagged veg and mictowave for 2 mins.
