flake it, mix with philadelphia, lemon juice, pepper, bit of tabasco, mix a lot til is pate

serve with toast

our top 2 smoked mackerel things are

put it in the food processor with a few drops of lemon juice and a few tablespoons of creme fraiche to make a smoked mackerel pate (leave it in the fridge for a bit). Don't add too much creme fraiche or it is too liquidy.

Or add it to salmon/cod/haddock to make a delicious fish pie.

Nigel Slater does a fab Mackerel Gratin Dauphinois....can't find a recipe online (it's in Real Food) but it's yer basic dauphnois layered with flaked smoked mackerel & whole-grain mustard in the cream.

or Ruth Watson's working night bit of genius - put flaked smoked mackerel in a hot bowl, add rice (japanese rice if you have it) some nice steamed or stir-fried greens, soy sauce. Stir. Instant Japanese meal - and v tasty.

It has been short sleeves and sunshine here this afternoon - so am going to go the salady option and do the paté -thank you everyone, will definitely also try the other ideas.
