Invited to a vegan wedding

I'm a carnivore but they aren't catering for me. I've got to eat vegan food.

When they came to my wedding, I gave them a vegan menu in the day and evening and they had vegan favours on the table.

This is a serious question - why aren't they catering for my chosen diet? I'm not going to make a fuss about it with them, but I think it's bloody rude!

Wisp · 12/04/2006 09:41

With liquidized tofu that then sets. PITA to make though !!

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 09:42

Quiche is GROSS!

Vegan or no

Heathcliffscathy · 12/04/2006 09:43

hulababy · 12/04/2006 09:45

Seems a really simple decision to make to me.

EITHER

go and eat vegan

OR

don't go and stay at home and eat all the meat you want.

Enid · 12/04/2006 09:45

agree with hulababy

Enid · 12/04/2006 09:45

Heathcliffscathy · 12/04/2006 09:46

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 09:46

too much meat gives you dog breath

Heathcliffscathy · 12/04/2006 09:48

and stays in your bowel for billions of years....euewwww

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 09:48

yes and the tapeworms love it

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 09:49

(sophable and I have never been know to eat meat together btw) Wink

Carmenere · 12/04/2006 09:49

There used to be a hippyish whole food place in Brixton market that made the most delicious tofu lemon 'cheese'cake. Useless info I know but the quiches reminded me, sorry Smile I'm not vegan btw, I just like good food, no matter what it's made out of Grin

lazycow · 12/04/2006 10:41

The food should be fine (mind you I like pretty much anything foodwise including lentils etc though I prefer chocolate cake Grin) but I agree that it is really irritating that you have to provide vegan food for them but they woun't provide at least some organic milk and/or some decent dessert. Sorry but I've eaten many vegan meals as ds is vegetarian and we have vegan friends but practically all vegan desserts are absolutely rank

On the other hand - weddings are about more than just food so despite the irritation I'd go but have a bacon butty first or take a nice cake/dessert and have some after the meal to replace whatever vegan sad excuse for a dessert they give you. Can you tell that cakes and desserts are my obsession Grin - probably cos I'm on a diet so haven't eaten any for 4 months. Sad

Well, I've been putting quite a bit of thought to vegan desserts recently, following Pruni's thread.

Quite apart from chocolate/seville orange/apricot/raspberry sorbets, what's rank about poached pears with melted dark chocolate poured over them (so that the chocolate mixes with the remains of the syrup the pears have been poached in)? Or a puff pastry tart filled with luscious apricot compote? I'd adore either of those.

me too...drooooool Smile

elliott · 12/04/2006 15:03

puff pastry 90% butter though isn't it?

lazycow · 12/04/2006 16:49

Admit poached pears in wine etc are not rank but I personally don't like them much without some cream or mascarpone on them so perhaps my original post should be changed to 'average' rather than rank.

I also thought most pastry had butter in too though not being much of a cook I am prepared to be corrected.

Fundamentally it strikes me that vegan dessert dishes are fruit in different disguises - with none of the wickeness that I want from something sweet. The alternative seems to be some awful dairy substitute and believe me I've tried many.

Admitedly this could be the reason all my vegan friends are thin and I'm not Grin

Anyway I actually like a lot of vegan food just not the desserts Smile

motherinferior · 12/04/2006 21:50

Bought puff pastry is vegan. Drool.

I reckon one could do fairly sensational things with chestnut puree and melted dark choc too.

Clure · 12/04/2006 22:18

Just stuffed face with Booja Booja. Yummmm and they're vegan
