Easy, vegetarian British/English food needed!

Help! Trying to come up with a menu to show a non-British friend what English food is all about.

Complicated by 2 factors: 1. I am vegetarian and 2. We are not in the UK, so can only get basic ingredients.

What would you cook?

It's going to be all hearty yeoman fare isn't it? Ploughmans Lunches, Potato Pies, Caramelised Onion Tarts and Cauliflower Cheeses... Lots of scope in the dessert department of course. Steamed puddings, Apple Pies, Fruit Cobblers, Fruit Fools.....

If fish is on the agenda then kedgeree. Yum. If not, homity pies (cheese and potato pie). I think you could also get away with vegetable curries as they have been so widely adopted.

Quiche
soup
bubble and squeak with a fried egg
cheese on toast
cauliflower/macaroni cheese
jacket potato

Not really a menu suggestion but perhaps something to work with? Grin

You could do soup for a starter, followed by a quiche with bubble and squeak or champ potato and some other veg - maybe vine roast tomatoes and/or green beans.

I agree, Quiche of any kind would be good.
a vegetable and bean stew with dumplings if you can get veggie suet
Cauliflower cheese
Homemade baked beans (can be really yummy)

For dessert:
Apple pie or crumble
or a seasonal offering of trifle

Cheese soufflé? Vegetable terrine? A raised vegetable pie?
