It's worth doing a search on here, as this has been done lots of times before.

In the meantime, lentil dahl and rice is v cheap. In fact, most lentil dishes are cheap.

Vegetable and pearl barley soup is easy and cheap (search my name for a recipe).

Cheese and leek and potato pie.

Lentil soup.

Eggs - eg Spanish omelette.

Home made baked beans, with homemade wedges or jacket potatoes.

I had the most amazing cheap meal from the last thread started about this.

Dirty rice,
boil rice
slowly brown onions and garlic with salt ( I also add chicken seasoning and all purpose seasoning)
add finely finely sliced/mushed chicken liver (which costs 44p!)
when chicken livers cooked add rice mix up and serve

My 2 dc love this! Just don't tell them it's liver.

Cheese, leek and potato pie is dp's speciality dish!

Saute some sliced leeks in butter
Mash some potatoes with milk and butter and s&p
Grate a load of cheese
Mix together, whack into a dish and top with more cheese and then bake until golden.

FrillyMummy · 18/11/2012 20:26

Remus that sounds like heaven! Erm...does sauté mean cook till soft? Blush

Inneed...liver Confused Eeeek!

Saute does indeed mean cook in a frying pan in butter until soft - keep the heat v v low, as you don't want them to colour.

God no it doesn't taste of liver! I wouldn't eat it if it did remembers having to sit at the table for 2 days while DM tried to make me eat liver casserole

I get such a smug mum feeling that they eat liver and it's delicious!

Hi,
I am a SAHM mum who lost her job last year and money being tight, I now cook meals for a family of 6 daily. I am happy to share these recipes. Here are some recipes as well being able to cook a three course Indian meal under a fiver.
