......what will your menu be?

I am hosting this year (by default, and am NOT an accomplished hostess ), so would greatly appreciate some inspired menu ideas / tips.

Need ideas for all of it - starters, main, sides, pudding, etc., and any menus /recipes (with links if possible) would be a godsend.

Also, any brilliant ideas re: table decorations / centrepieces?

I've got 12 adults and 8 children coming. Help!

Pumpkin cheescake is yummy.

ZZZenAgain · 11/11/2012 21:01

never made one of those. Think I have to stick to something I know in case it flops!

Apple crumble would be my default pudding.

I so longed for Bramleys when we lived in the USA. It would be wrong to ignore the when there is such a glut.

While we are on American food can anybody tell me about peach cobbler? It used to get mentioned on my wife and kids a lot and Iv'e always assumed it was really nice and I would love to try it!

I am too. I'm doing a truffle butter turkey (recipe from Epicurious here, as it's the only turkey recipe we like. Then parsnip and potato mash, spicy sweet potato wedges, chestnut, leek and apple stuffing and pumpkin pie to finish. I'll be cooking for about 2 days, but I love it.

Bramdy, cobbler is a bit like crumble, but with doughy rather than crumbly pastry, if that makes sense. You can make it with all sorts of fruit and it's delicious.

I might google and have ago say thanks mmm

Sorry, for getting your name wrong Brandy - here's a tried-and-tested Jamie Oliver cobbler recipe as an apology Smile.

OMG it looks lush, am so using up my cooking apples tomorrow and making this.

ZZZenAgain · 11/11/2012 21:49

I think I should have a go at a pumpkin pie after all.

ZZZenAgain · 11/11/2012 21:50

I think I'm going to do these recipes.
Sweet potato casserole
Cornbread and apple stuffing
Green bean casserole
Will keep the turkey fairly plain, but basted and juicy, perhaps with some lemon and thyme, and then mashed potato with butter and cream and lots of black pepper.
Pumpkin pie for dessert.
Will probably do it for my birthday dinner, which is on the Sunday.
It's a turkey breast joint of some sort I have, as there's only two of us.
I also have this Buffalo roast turkey with blue cheese sauce bookmarked to try, but will do that with a chicken.
