vegetarian xmas dinner ideas?

This will be our first veggie xmas and was wondering what to do for dinner. We normally have the usual Turkey (Although last year we had duck and venison wuth cherry sauce -the venison was disgusting)!
Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

We have the Quorn turkey roll thingy and all the usual trimmings.

The frozen Qourn fillets are scrummy and a bit expensive unless on offer, so will be having them as a Christmas treat

OH is the only vegetarian in our house and he usually has the quorn roll or a nut Wellington from waitrose. I cook Sunday lunch most weeks and Christmas dinner isn't much different in our house except we drink lots of fizz and have a starter.

One of the nicest Christmas dinners I ever had was vegan.
We had a wild mushroom plait with vegan pastry and it was delicious. It looked great too and was served at the table so it felt special.

The Cranks nut roast with homemade cranbery sauce (delia or gary rhodes) and all the trimmings. Delicious!

My DM and I are vegetarian, so there're always two options at Christmas.

~Stuffed butternut squash is great (I think Jamie Oliver has a recipe)
~Cheese and lentil loaf is very tasty and has the protein element
well-covered - it's really just a different take on dry nut loaf
~Mushroom tart/quiche

Rose Elliot has some amazing recipes for Christmas; look in any of her books.

Last year I did myself cauliflower cheese and just served it with the veggies and stuffing [vegetarian of course]. I will probably just do the same again this year, as I absolutely love cauliflower cheese.

I generally go for a mushroom Wellington or similar although we've also had not roast, cheese and cranberry gulp crackers...

I'm the only veggie in the house so what ever I have on Christmas day usually does boxing day.. and the 27th... Or it gets frozen and comes out whenever anyone else is having a posh/celebratory meal!

I tend not to bother having anything tbh, just have all the veggies, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, veggie gravy.

Oooh, I have a nice recipe for a vegetarian nut Wellington, which goes really well with the usual trimmings you might have with a Christmas lunch. If you like the idea I'll dig it out and post it.......

I did a chestnut risotto tart thinglast year from Sainsbury's mag - Jamie recipe. It was fab.

I often just do Quorn roast etc, which we & MIL eat happily, but was doing a joint of beef for lots of other non-veggie in-laws, so wanted to impress at the non meaty end of the table!

Basically, you make the risotto the night before (includes butternut squash, chestnuts & red wine as I remember) then line a baking sheet with filo, fill with risotto & fold filo over.

It was delicious & we had the leftovers cold on Boxing Day.

I've also done a really good nut roast with Xmassy flavours before - just adapt any nut roast recipe by adding chopped chestnuts/cranberries/stilton.

I usually make some kind of nut roast/stuffing mix sort of thing. I have no recipe, I usually haul out recipe books and magazines pour over all the recipes, realise that I don't have all of the ingredients for any of them so make up my own variation of all the recipes. I throw bread (any left over crusty bits , odd slices etc), nuts and seeds in the blender with some herbs, onion, garlic, melted butter, maybe an egg or some soft cheese to help bind it, maybe lemon rind and juice or mushrooms. Mix to a stuffing like consistency and bake in the oven.

I make caramelised onion gravy and mix it with the stick mixture to please DS who says he doesn't like any of that stuff with onions in.

If you are dining with meat eaters, it can be nice to make plenty so they can have some too.

If you love the gravy, roast potatoes etc, choose something that works well with that. I am not a fan of lasagne (typical work Christmas do vege choice) with all the usual roast trimmings! I like both but IMHO they don't work together.
