I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. I'm about to start baking my one year old son's birthday / christening cake. I'm doing nigella's buttermilk birthday cake (x3) and then shaping it into a duck (DS likes to quack). And I'm doing some of nigella's millionaire shortbread. Wish me luck!

I've been to the shop, got my ingredients and am lining the tins. I'm thinking maybe I should make the body and the head completely separately so they're not in the oven at the same time and cake mix isn't left sitting around whilst one of them cooks. Any advice?

The first cake (the body) is in.
