plenty of onion chopped in it

SoupDragon · 24/03/2006 20:41

Cheese sauce surely. You can't have a too ceesey macaroni cheese IMO.

Can be nice with smoked bacon in it.

Prufrock · 24/03/2006 20:56

Pancetta - fry till crisp. Add quartered mushroom chunks, fry till brown (allow all juice to come out and continue frying until reabsorbed. Cheese sauce (Basic roux with lots of strong cheddar - we use Mull of Kintyre, and a couple of teaspoons of Colmans mustard). Mix bacon/mushrooms into cooked macaroni, mix sauce in thouroughly, add quartered cherry tomatoes and mix gently (you don't want to break up the tomatoes)

Cook for 30 minutes before eating

Sorry girls, I don't even know where to begin - never made one but I know my dd loves it when they make it at nursery so would like to start making it for her. Should have made it clearer, sorry.

Boil the macaroni in boiling water (as per instructions on pack). Do a couple of hard boiled eggs at the same time. Fry up some lardons (small cubes of bacon).

Cheese sauce

Melt a good dollop of butter in a saucepan, add some flour until you get a ball of moist looking mixture. Add a small amount of milk and blend in on a low heat, add some more milk, blend etc until you have the quantiy desired. Add a dollop of mustard and handfuls of grated cheese and stir in 'til melted and desired level of cheesiness is achieved. (if the sauce gets lumpy just blitz with a hand held blender).

Put pasta, lardons and hard boiled eggs (chopped) into an oven proof dish pour over sauce, season and add a sprinkle of grated cheese and breadcrumbs. Pop under grill until topping is golden. Perfect.

mustard in it yuk!!!!!!!

hubby like it that way too but it makes me very sick and I love mac cheese

NannyL · 24/03/2006 22:53

i always stick in a pinch of mustard powder with the flour... that way you cant really taste it but it just gives a subtle hint thats less boring then just cheese

YUMMY...

tho once i must ahve pit rather alot in when 3 year old told me that it was funny cause she thought her sauce tatsed of mustard Blush

I do a very simple cheese sauce, ie bechemel with loads of cheese and stir into cooked pasta. No onions, lardons, or mustard thankyou. I do a nice not too creamy traditional carbonara with smoked bacon though.

Skribble - tried it yesterday, and it was gorgeous! Simple and very tasty - thanks!
