Can't find black treacle for love nor money (in Spain) Sad

Does anyone know an alternative for cooking the Christmas pudding? Delia asks for black treacle but I'm buggered if I can find it.

Thanks in advance.

Can you try a different one which doesn't need black treacle.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 07/10/2012 15:13

do they have molasses? (same sort of thing but just a different name)

vodkaanddietirnbru · 07/10/2012 15:16

blackstrap molasses seems to be the equivalent of black treacle

perfectstorm · 07/10/2012 15:24

Ask someone to post it to you, maybe?

UK-Spain post too slow, I'd like to make it this week. Have looked for molasses but no joy, I also can't get to nearest big city to check all their fancy shmancy shops Sad

wheredidiputit could you point me in the direction of a non-treacle Christmas cake recipe? Do you know of any? Am I better off getting off my lazy ass and googling it?! Wink

can you get dark corn syrup?

perfectstorm · 07/10/2012 17:35

I just googled and apparently "melaza" means treacle - if they have a specific word for it it seems weird you can't buy it! Have you googled in Spain to see if a local online deli or something can get it to you?

found a subsitute: Caramel Liquido (if anyone finds themselves in the same situation!), it's basically the brown sticky stuff poured over creme broule.

Al will be well at Christmas time.

Thanks, everyone Smile
