DS is 17 months almost
still has milk in the morning and evening and sometimes in the afternoon too.
WHat do other people give their similar age kids to drink at other times.........just curious?

My 1yr old has very weak orange squash. He likes tea but i don't like him having it.

Lisa78 · 28/12/2003 16:05

DS2 is only 7 wks but DS1 got water, water and more water!

popsycal · 28/12/2003 16:07

Dd (19 m) won't drink cold milk for some reason, but still gets warm milk at breakfast and bedtime. In the day she gets water or watered down pure fruit juice, apart from the odd drink of additive-laden shite when we're out. I'm trying to be more organised and keep a bottle of water with me at all times!

popsycal · 28/12/2003 16:13

another reason that i ask is...recently we have given ds water with a splash of pure fruit juice in and his nappies are DISGUSTING!!
been trying to work out why.......sorry about details but very explosive and lighter in colour than usual
will cut out diluted fruit juice for afew days to see if it makes a difference
he is always very erm 'regular' (too regular if you ask me) but this is ridiculous!!

My ds nappies are like that when he is teething. could that be it? Or a lot of fruit perhaps?

norma · 28/12/2003 16:57

my ds is 20mths and he drinks galons of milk, and weak orange squash.

Angeliz · 28/12/2003 17:38

my dd is 2.9 and drinks apple juice and water, (lots of it!).

popsycal · 28/12/2003 19:36

My DS2 is almost 20 months and only drinks water, won't touch milk as a drink and shudders when he tries juice and doesn't drink that either. My DS1 on the otherhand at the same age would only drink pure apple juice (diluted down) or milk.

Hulababy · 28/12/2003 21:43

My 20mo DD has mostly water. She will drink warm milk (not cold) in a morning if given straight away on waking up. And occassionally if we are out she has very dilute orange (fresh or squash).

Until about 15 or 16 months she wouldn't touch water or milk (other than formula) at all, and would only have baby juices.

LIZS · 28/12/2003 21:49

Until very recently dd (28 months ) has had only cold milk (straight from the fridge, bad mum)and water. Recently she has started to ask for juice like her brother and may have it once a day with a meal.

stupidgirl · 28/12/2003 21:51

Water, milk (straight from fridge), apple juice, orange juice, ribena, orange squash, sometimes cola, and if she can grab my cup - coffee too!! DD is 2 and DS is 8 - both happy to drink anything.

Paula71 · 28/12/2003 23:53

According to our dentist for their teeths sake apart from water, milk and diluted fruit juice the best drink is diluted Robinsons, the blue top bottle- sugar free.

Welshmum · 29/12/2003 07:23

DD of 20 months has water - occasionally with a straw as a special treat, and milk straight from the fridge, morning and evening. She asks for juice when she sees her cousin having some but is given water.

popsycal · 29/12/2003 20:46

after thinking about his dirty nappies, ds has only had milk and water today....
only one dirty nappy - explosive and foul though it was
that was first thikg this morning....nothing since
one poo in a day hasn't happened in ages!!!
stocked up on bottled water today!!

My five year old was always given just water & milk but gradually as we went to more toddler groups etc she had very weak juice when she was with other children. She will now sometimes ask for juice when there are others about but really prefers water (which I have to admit makes me feel quite pleased with myself!). My 2 year old seems to be heading much the same way so I'd say start with water, don't let them have juice until they're mixing with others and start to feel they're the 'odd one out', then just in moderation, just the tiniest 'splash' is enough to give the water a taste

since dropping juice in any form, ds's dirty nappies have been brilliant!!!!

My 19 month dd drinks the concentrated cow & Gate baby cordial's (Sugar free) with added vitamin c. I dilute 1 part juice, 20 x water and it is still very pleasant. It tastes more fruity than the Robinsons cordial. She drinks from a trainer cup but originally from a bottle. Only thing now is she won't drink water anymore!! I used to offer water at night if she was feeling thirsty, but now she won't drink anything except milk from a bottle and definately no water from a trainer cup.
