Making a birthday cake for dh next week.
I want to do a version of a black forest gateau with a few changes.
Still be the chocolate sponge layers with kirsch soaked in, sandwiched with cream and some (defrosted) frozen cherries (I hate cherries in syrup, and jam just doesn't have the texture I want). I want to cover the whole thing with melted chocolate (with some butter and syrup in it) and topped with some kirsch soaked chocolate covered cherries.
I have to make a cake the day before for ds which will be a lot more child orientated. Red and orange sponge (to look like an explosion) - not sure what to sandwich the layers with though? Covered in green icing with black detail to look like some kind of minecraft creature. Am using gel colour so shouldn't need strong flavour cake so am probably going for just a basic sponge cake. I'm thinking maybe buttercream for sandwiching?
