What about protein shake. Put it in a blender with ice cubes to thicken it up a little. Boring I know but they do come with almost no carbs, different flavours and you could use a small part of your carb allowance to add a little fruit.

I used to have tomato cheese and ham for breakfast as an alternative to the usual fry-up. Would take it into work and eat it there.
To take into work for lunch I used to have a variety of salads, prawn & egg, chicken, anchovy & tuna, smoked salmon, grated cheddar & tuna.

Think you can tell from the "used to" that i'm not doing it any more !

chloeb2002 · 27/12/2003 20:13

there are lots! atkins do there own and one called shake off the sugar . com that ive just found! rules are simple tho, in the first two weeks less than 20 grams of carbs. then include some healthy carbs from veg and nuts etc... i also just found a book called curb the carb that puts low carb eating into simple terms! by amanda cross. hope that helps

If anyone is interested I have an almost brand new Atkins book, a cook book and a carb counter book. I have read the main book once. Tried it and hated it - not for me. Cost me in excess of £15. Someone can have them for a fraction of the price to cover some postage.

Clairabelle · 27/12/2003 20:24

HHH could i please, ireally want to start next week. will send you my email

HappyHollyHulababy · 27/12/2003 20:30

clairabelle - contact me through Contact Another Talker, and they are yours.

I will defintiely not be using them again!!! Never even opened the cook book! Mind a friend of mine did it and he lost lots of weight so it does work for many people, just not me.

Clairabelle · 27/12/2003 20:44

Have done hope to hear from you soon

Clairabelle · 27/12/2003 20:45

sorry meant to say thank you.Manners, manners!

Hulababy · 27/12/2003 21:09

The 3 books will cost a little under £3 to post I think.

The books I have are:

  • Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2003 (£7.99)
  • Dr Atkins New Diet Cookbook, 2003 (£6.99)
  • Dr Atkins New Carbohydrate Counter (£3.99)
Clairabelle · 27/12/2003 21:15

Brilliant thanks can i send you some money for the books or what fiction do you like maybe I could send you some books in return.

Hulababy · 27/12/2003 21:20

Would £5 for books and postage be okay with you? Covers me for package then. Just glad to be rid now as fed up I couldn't get it to work for me!!! Hope you are more successful.

Clairabelle · 27/12/2003 21:25

Lovely thanks if you're sure that's ok

Hulababy · 27/12/2003 21:31

No problem at all. Not sure how long it'll take Mumsnet to contact me so you can e-mail me your details at

claireandrich(at)beeb(dot)net

Written like this to avoid it being picked up by mailers!

I can post them on Monday first class if you want to get started! Post office only opposite apartment so not a problem at all.
