Chicken - Best Before date - 17 March - (Friday)...

is it ok to eat ?

I bought it in the bargain bin Blush on Friday & couldn't freeze it as the freezer was full.

Just roasting it now, but concerned in case I/we shouldn't eat it.

I am 20 weeks pregnant.

Personally with chicken and you being pregnant I wouldn't risk it.

I'd have cooked it on the day, if unable to freeze.

I'd say no, best not risk it.

sorry!

LaylaandSethsmum · 19/03/2006 18:02

Bin it

I am more towards saying bin it than eat it. How does it smell?

Bedshaped · 19/03/2006 18:07

Get it in the bin.

Roobie · 19/03/2006 18:09

I beg to differ - if it looks OK and smells OK I would definitely eat it. The chicken is not magically programmed to go off at the turn of midnight on 17th ......

mojomummy · 19/03/2006 18:29

well I gave it a good sniff & it was fine..although not sure what a good chicken should smell like - I assume an off chicken would smell ?

I've cooked it & it looks lovely...perhaps I should give it to the cat ?

"if in doubt, chuck it out..."!!!!
glad you saw sense though, especially being pregnant.

Jodee · 19/03/2006 19:15

chicekn would have a "use by" not "best before" date, surely? if it wasn't meat, i prob would have eaten it, but Im very wary of chicken.

Agree to some extent with Roobie though - the chicken should not have a strong odour nor should it be slimy-looking, that's what I go on. I wouuld chuck out a chicken well inside the "use by" date if it failed those 2 tests.
