Kitchen is being replaced (at last!) leaving me with a microwave and a steamer for cooking.... Any recipes or advice would be great! I can't live on takeaway and have a 7 month old DD to feed too.

get yourself a slow cooker ! - see the slow cooker recipe threads - loads and loads of ideas - lots of microwave receipe's on here too !

I was coming on to post the same question.

I was wondering about a slow cooker but i don't eat meat (or dairy or soy atm due to intolerant bf dc). Would it just give me several versions of lentil and veg stew?

Tell you what. I'll stop being lazy and look it up!
I'm also concerned about my washing machine...

Do you eat fish? Fish with herbs wrapped in foil and cooked alongside veg in the steamer.

Ooh that sounds nice!

Could you get something like this? I bought one when we had our extension built and it was absolutely fine. If you have space, it's not an expensive option and you can do pretty much anything you normally cook in it.

You need a remoska, they're fab and do everything you want. You'll be using it long after your kitchen has been finished.

We used a little camping stove like this when we were doing up our kitchen. www.robertdyas.co.uk/P~148945~Outback-Portable-Gas-Stove

I spent nearly a year cooking with a baby belling (mini oven thing) and microwave when we were renovating our last house! Got to be quite an expert and there is loads that you can do but I can't remember it all now!

Microwave rice in the packet is a godsend, I like the brown basmati, can mix with tuna or ham/chorizo with steamed veggies. Corned beef hash (do spuds in microwave). Gammon steaks are OK microwaved, with rice and peas. Steamed fish eg salmon. Chicken caesar salad or chicken and salad in tortilla wraps with salsa/guacamole - microwaved chicken looks a bit pale but tastes fine, especially if mixed in something. Fresh pasta eg ravioli/tagliatelle and the fresh sauces only take a few mins. Microwave poached eggs (get poacher from lakeland) or baked beans on toast. Great for homemade soups. Couscous just needs a kettle. Will try and think of some more!

Get one of the halogen ovens you can do everything in it . Wouldn't be without mine much more use than a microwave.
