Not very good at sauces...will this work?

I am not very good at making sauces/gravy. Somehow, I just can't get it right. But I keep trying!

I am making steak on Friday night and want to try something a but more hectic. My plan is to cook mushrooms in the pan after I fry the steak the add some Madeira wine, let it bubble away then pour in some cream. Will this work? I want quite a rich sauce as I'm making very simple sides of new potatoes and some greens.

It's a fine balance. You need to have the pan hot enough to boil off the alcohol, but not so hot that it curdles the cream when it hits the pan.

The combination sounds good though. Don't forget the black pepper.

Just use the wine, leave out the cream.
