My DD is 14 months abd vegetarian and need some good ideas (not too complicated or time consuming please) for her to take to nursery for her tea. Got the usual mini sandwiches and chopped raw veggies and fruit. Anyone got any nice suggestions?

Pitta bread, with avocado dip (put lemon juice in and it will last a couple of hours before going brown), or philadelphia cheese, or hummus. Little cubes cheese, tofu, chickpeas, kidney beans, quorn pieces. Boiled egg slices? Tortilla wraps, slices cold omelette or frittata. Cold baked beans very popular in our house at the moment! Mini cheese scones, mini pizzas, mini quiches. HTH :)

my DS loves cold sausages (quorn or cauldron foods), mini veggie rolls

Mini breadsticks with hummus, soft cheese, mushroom pate to dip into,
vegetable "sausage" rolls
cherry tomatoes
cous cous with chickpeas and other veg cooked in .

Thanks everyone. Loads of good ideas. Like the veggie sausage idea. Also the falafel - am going to make some and freeze them. Tried baked beans yesterday and she kept throwing them on the floor!

Has anyone ever found any veggie cocktail sausages anywhere? My kids would love these but I can never find any so assumed they're not made.?

BettySpaghetti · 17/03/2006 20:49

Cheese straws (we use pastry left over from other baking)
Cold pasta
Cooked carrot
Cheese and biscuits

QE2, I've never found them. You can make your own Glamorgan sausages

and adjust them to what your children will eat

At Christmas I found (in Sainsbury's, probably) a Quorn party pack with cocktail sausages and little quorn "bites" and things like that. It maybe one of those things they only get out for the "party season" though (obviously people don't have parties at any other time of year) Quorn also do goujons (like chicken) and fajita strips - never tried them though!

QE2 · 18/03/2006 10:33

Thanks Mercy, they look really tasty.

Tommy, yes have seen the chicken strips - they are actually quite nice and my kids use them as pizza topping. Will look out for the party stuff next xmas!

It does annoy me that the veggie equivalents are the last thing on manufacturers minds when it comes to this sort of thing.

Fry's (I found them in freezer at health shop) do hot dogs which are vegan. They are long but could always cut them into smaller pieces. Taste nice too.
