Cardboard cake stands - cheap ones?

iggi777 · 07/09/2012 11:54

Am planning a christening party later in the year, and thought of arranging the food afternoon tea style on cake stands. Thought of cardboard ones as they seem quite pretty and obviously cheaper - but looking on ebay etc they seem quite expensive still, especially with postage.
Has anyone seen ones in shops (to avoid the postage) and as cheap as possible?
(May be posting another baking thread nearer the time - "help, how do I bake lots of cakes on one day when I am clueless?"
TIA

They have some in poundland!!

Can't get cheaper than that.

Morrisons were selling Union Jack cardboard ones last week for 50p.

A few weeks a go I saw some in poundland - for £1!
They had some union jack ones but also had some pale blue and pale pink ones - which would be perfect for a christening.
but if you wanted to splash out a bit more (£6) you can get the wire ones quite cheap now and they do look good.

That was so quick! Thank you for the ideas, I have Morrisons nearest so will try them first (though union jacks will not go down too well with all dh's Scottish relatives, but so what!)
Falsestarted are you sure you can part with it? I feel bad to take it off you..

i haven't paid anything for it, and i'm not going to use it until at least next year!

it was given to me in kindness, i'm passing that good will on

PM me your address, i'll pop it in the post next week

just read your message again - realised you are not doing just cupcakes - in which case these are really nice from wilkinsosn as well - if all else fails.

Thanks Falsestarted, you are a mumsnet gem Smile

It may be a silly idea, just not really keen on the buffet plans of my MIL, but then remembered how much I love an afternoon tea.
