Yup

Banned for eternity here.

Pinotmum · 16/03/2006 15:07

No I have never noticed a difference in behaviour.

spursmum · 16/03/2006 15:07

Since I stopped giving ds anything with aspartamine (sp?) his behaviour has improved greatly. But I never noticed how hard it is to find juice without it. Only certain types of 'high' juice don't have it.
ARRRGGGHHHH!!

zippitippitoes · 16/03/2006 15:14

that's interesting, dgs was a complete loony on tuesday and I thought he had either teeth, sore throat or had had something toxic..he was kicking, screaming, shaking his head, running like a mad thing, crying and behaving oddly for about three or four hours..so i quizzed dd on what he had before he came to me and she confessed to fruit shoot..so I've banned it!

If you buy packs of small juice cartons from Lidl, they are only 9p each - just use pure juice. Fruit Shoots are one of the drinks where Sodium Benzoate and ascorbic acid combine to create carcinogenic benzene, anyway.

lucy5 · 16/03/2006 15:18

They are full of e numbers.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2006 15:19

OH GOOD GOD YES!!!!!

Avoid them like the plague. Bottled pure evil they are.

elastamum · 16/03/2006 15:32

Drives them quite mad! I usually give mine organic apple juice or ribena which doesnt seem to have quite the same effect

Blu · 16/03/2006 15:33

The proportional cost of the actual fruit juice in a Fruit Shoot is £20 per litre.

i.e if you made up a litre of pure juice form the contents of Fruit Shoot bottles, it would cost you over £20. In some soft drinks, the figure is as high as £32! The 'no-added sugar' lable just means chemicals instead!

Cadbury · 16/03/2006 15:37

yup - have been banned in my house - I also steer away from any squash (and fizzy drinks) that has Sodium Benzonate in them - it works like caffine with my two. The difference is dramatic.

sandyballs · 16/03/2006 15:44

Yes, my two are off the wall on fruit shoots. Sugar (in moderation) much better for them than sweeteners.

Has anyone else noticed that Capri Sun have changed to "no added sugar", i.e. sweeteners?

Blu · 16/03/2006 15:45

I honestly think this form of wording should be banned. They should be forced to put 'contains artificial sweetners' instead of making out that 'no added sugar' is a health benefit.

misdee · 16/03/2006 15:47

i have started buying tropicania instead. much nicer instead.

zippitippitoes · 16/03/2006 15:50

I'm sure dd would have bought it because she thought it was better.

I only give him water or milk with the occasional extremely diluted fruit juice (not drink)

I think they should restrict their use in childrens' products.

Zippi - I suspect you're right - the combination of 'fruit' in the name and the 'no-added sugar' claim must fool a lot of people (not MN-ers, obviously Grin)

misdee · 16/03/2006 15:53

i remember working at safeway when sunny d was launched. the wording on it, how they palced it next to the juices, loads of people thought they were buying something that was good for their kids.

4blue1pink · 16/03/2006 15:54

Zippi - 100% agrement here and we just cannot give them ! I almost LIKE what it does to my quiet little boy but it freaks me that a drink can completely alter personality....I think they spike them with ecstacy !

iota · 16/03/2006 15:55

Misdee I believe tha teh SunnyD thing was down to Twiglett Shock

misdee · 16/03/2006 15:56

twiglett, no!! Shock

colditz · 16/03/2006 16:00

Barred completely in this house. My reasonably calm little boy's eyes seem to roll back in his head when he has had a fruit shoot, I can tell if her has had one from dp even if he doesn't tell me. totally banned now. as arer all sweeteners, they taste gross anyway. I would rather have his teeth drop out than have the reaction a fruit shoot gives him.

PiccadillyCircus · 16/03/2006 16:02

Never given DS a fruit shoot and don't intend to.

(or DD but seing as she is only 6 months I'm not thinkong about it at all yet)

BettySpaghetti · 16/03/2006 16:04

In answer to the original question -you only have to look around the average softplay centre to get your answer - YES

(why do they sell that stuff in confined spaces where children are high and excitable anyway?)

nulnulcat · 16/03/2006 16:06

she goes totally hyper on them and most things that have colouring s and stuff in them particularly smarties so of course on the rare occasion she sees her father fruit shoots and smarties are her favourite and let her have them!!! does that make me evil mummy? i then have the delight in saying well she never behaves like that for me must be you!!

cod · 16/03/2006 16:07

what do you think they are going to do to them you thickos Angry

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/03/2006 16:13

Cod has just supped one by the looks of it.....tee hee hee.
