Dn wand wants a nice plain vanilla sponge for 21st birthday.

This is a good vanilla cake recipe.

I can dig out the cup conversions if you're set on the cake boss one.

Trazzletoes · 07/09/2012 08:02

Cups are hard to convert exactly because it's a volume measurement rather than weight so it depends on the different thing you are measuring IYSWIM. You can buy cup measures on Amazon. Otherwise, Delia has a rough equivalence on her website.

You can buy cup measures in Morrisons for that matter.

I have this book which has conversions for different ingredients, flour/sugar etc.

This is a lovely vanilla cake www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10860/easy-vanilla-cake

this is an amercian yellow cake containing butter milk which is also very good smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/07/best-birthday-cake/- I would always use vanilla paste with the specks (waitrose)

I easily and successfuly convert all my recipes from cups to grams and then scale down to the tin with this kind of chart - www.traditionaloven.com/conversions_of_measures/flour_volume_weight.html or just google it.

www.lindyscakes.co.uk/2009/07/27/how-to-i-change-a-cake-recipe-quanities/ this is great for size conversion and us it a lot.

Thanks. I bought the cup measures but it came out dreadful. More to do with it being a 1 and a 2 tin. Tried again in the nothing with a victoria sponge and a better way of lining the tins and it came out gorgeous

i'll third that vanilla birthday cake recipe from the BBC good food site. Its very good!

shesariver · 09/09/2012 23:15

Im making a cake which will involve baking 2 halves in a pyrex bowl - do you think this BBC recipe would be ok for this?

blackcatsdancing · 10/09/2012 09:21

ooh i don't know! whenever i've baked in a pyrex bowl i'v found the cake somehow greasier. It rises ok but has a denser feel to it, more like a cross between a steamed pudding and a cake. Never been a disaster or a problem for a kids cake but def a different texture. Not sure if that recipe would make that worse.

blackcatsdancing · 10/09/2012 09:28

i'm guessing it would.

shesariver · 10/09/2012 14:16

Thanks, maybe have a trial first then. Its actually an eyeball cake for a Halloween party! Grin
