I have a built in gas oven that I need to replace. I have always had a gas oven but I'm thinking of switching to electric as they seem to be recommended and there is definitely more choice.

I regularly bake bread, cakes and biscuits as well as all the usual stuff and I need a built in double oven on a budget of around £600. I've looked in the review section on here but there's nothing in there.

Are there any makes I should stay clear of? Is it worth saving up a bit and spending a bit more or is it all just bells & whistles at the top end?

The £80 only covered the stripping of the oven, not the stripping of the cleaning man. Thankfully. Bless'im. :o

We had a Bosch fan oven in our last house and it was faultless- I pine for it now we have moved! Perfect for baking, even temperature- get a Bosch!

MothershipG · 06/09/2012 06:49

Thanks Cake! I'll have a look at Bosch

Grin kibit Cheeky! I'd love a range but I have a small kitchen that's already set up for a fitted oven and my hob is fine, so I can't justify it Sad

We went through this process late last year with a similar budget to yours. After looooooooooots of hours spent reading reviews online we finally settled on this one

So far so good we have not been disappointed. It's great! Bakes evenly, heats up quickly and grill works well. It looks good too, I think. Smile HTH

My tumble dryer is Bosch and it's excellent, i think they're quite good at white goods.

MothershipG · 06/09/2012 11:22

Thanks Josie that's really helpful, I'll take a look...

Have moved house , so now have a Britannia range cooker which I love , and got for half price from a discount appliance company , but in my old house I had a Smeg double oven , which was the business . If I could have fitted it in here , I would have brought it with me .

ivykaty44 · 06/09/2012 23:39

I have looked at the neff ovens and like the style where the door dissapears into the bottom of the oven - this makes so much sense to me - as then the door is out of the way to reach in and get your goods.

bumpybecky · 06/09/2012 23:49

Smeg range here and I would not recommend it

bearings were faulty in cooling fan when new, replaced under warrantee
since then two major faults, blew main fuse and something else went, still under warrantee
door seals gone twice, replaced under warrantee (I never normally get them, lucked out this time!)
it went funny again this evening Confused

it's 6 years old and and out of warrantee now :(

feetheart · 06/09/2012 23:57

Definitely avoid Zanussi - the element on ours has blown up FOUR times in ten years, usually taking the thermostat with it. Every time it has been replaced I have had to learn to cook in it all over again although it still cooks unevenly and the fan seems just as pathetic. I am now willing it to blow up again so I can get rid of it - it must be due soon!

MothershipG · 07/09/2012 09:13

Ivy We were all attracted by the sliding door but MrsJohn's has fallen off 3 times and a few people have not been happy with their Neffs.

And we've got one thumbs up for Smeg and one thumbs down, and I know it's juvenile but I think I really would struggle to have an appliance called Smeg! Grin

Well it always made me smile . Particularly when I used to pay a man to 'clean the smeg........ ' !

waitandseepudding · 08/09/2012 20:24

FWIW my mum had a double new world gas oven (side by side, range thing). She used it daily until it sadly died a couple of months ago (after 16yrs). It had the engineer called a few times but they were always able to come up with a new part/fix. produced good results (but dm is a good cook), childminder, and at its height was cooking for 10+ each day.
We have an electric lamona (howdens own brand). Not recommended, too many settings none of which I'm sure about because no manual and takes foreVer to heat up.

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 10/09/2012 22:33

Had Neff in past, like Bosch and Siemens too. Got a Smeg with a big single oven. Would like a Gaggengau next time!

tb · 21/09/2012 23:06

Had 2 Neff ovens in the past, both double and single. Also had a Zanussi without problems.

Since 1992 have had Agas, so can't really comment on recent models.

Yamyoid · 21/09/2012 23:17

I think mine's a Samsung. It's been fine, heats up quickly, cooks fairly evenly. But what I really like is that it splits in 2 so you can have the top half as a grill and bottom as oven. Or 2 ovens at different temps. Great for roast dinners. You can slide out the divider and have one big oven as well.

In my current and last few years of having wasted my time, money and energy on cda appliances I can confirm they are rubbish, garentee means nothing and the customer care is appalling, don't entertain any appliances .

MMMMMaria · 22/06/2014 22:05

last kitchen was a Smeg range, looked great but not great - temperature not what dial said & seals went
kitchen before that had a Neff double oven- in the 9 years we had it never had a problem, great ovens
new kitchen am going for the Neff with slide away door (hope I won't regret it after read this post)!

chancer2014 · 03/01/2015 07:32

Agree with Lucie: Don't buy CDA. Rubbish. Can't wait for mine to go to Oven Hell.

StoryOfMyLife · 03/01/2015 08:17

Beaumatic, it's garbage. Don't recommend at all.

agoodbook · 04/01/2015 14:42

I have a freestanding cooker,( not a built in) - bought about 18 months ago AEG and it is fabulous! Absolutely to temperature, quick to heat up, triple insulation. I think the only downside is the grill pan doesn't have a handle, which i find annoying. I spent a bit more to have the induction hob on it ( brilliant!) but I suspect you can get the same oven . Highly recommend it
