Hello, I'm looking to bake my daughters first birthday cake and need tips and possibly a favorite sponge recipe.

I've just done a trial run with a butterfly silicone mould and a very basic sponge mix but it turned out very greasy but I don't know if this was due to the mould or the recipe Hmm

Fuzzyduck, what mixture did you use? your own or a packet mix?

It was one from a book. Very simple flour, eggs, sugar, butter abc baking powder. Once cooled it wasn't to bad. Think I maybe tried to turn out of mould to quick instead of leaving it to completely cool

You may need to make a more dense cake if your going to decorate your cake, it will keep longer than normal sponge, it lasts several days, if you google madiera cake, thats what you need.
