Can I freeze an iced birthday cake (vanilla sponge)?

We had a joint birthday party for our DCs but only ate DD's cake. 1yo DS's cake is intact. It's an iced vanilla sponge and cost a fortune. It's hard icing - fondant/sugar paste?

Can we freeze it? I know you should normally freeze cakes before they are iced, but this thing is a work of art.

How long should it last in the fridge?

Yes.

I just had a piece of cake from DDs birthday which we froze a few weeks ago. Was delish.

Ooh, fab, thank you!

Now to clear some space in the freezer....yikes.

Um. If it's really sugarpaste, then it probably won't freeze at all well. Fondant/sugarpaste weeps and goes horrible if you store it in the fridge, so I don't think it would go in the freezer either, without defrosting in a weepy way. Sad
