Ideas for retro 80s buffet please

It will be a cold buffet for 150 people for my birthday. Its 80s fancy dress with bar. I have a v. small budget and no kitchen facilities at venue so has to be cold buffet pre-prepared at home and no arctic roll unfortunately as no freezer!

Ideas to be low cost and easy to go on platters (no individual angel delights in shot glasses or anything).

I'm doing the coctail sticks thing (cheese, pineapple, pickled onion) in hedgehogs and quiche. Any other ideas welcomed.

Thanks

Thinking back to the buffets my mum & gran used to do:

Ritz crackers with a splodge of Primula on top (the kind that comes in a tube)
peanuts
bowl of salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber) with no salad dressing - maybe some Heinz salad cream
vol-au-vents with prawn cocktail type stuff in them
bread rolls & finger rolls made into open sandwiches with a selection of toppings (ham / liver pate / beef paste)
black forest gateau / vienneta / trifle

oh yes, and my mum never used to reheat the quiche like it says to do on the packet, she'd just dish it up straight from the fridge so that it was nice and stodgy

I'm getting all nostalgic now..

I am very old and was having parties in the 1980s and this is stuff that I would recognise from the 60s or 70s. We had things like houmus, tzatsiki, tapas, olives, parma ham, goats cheese on buffets. I think that your time zone may need refiguring

Happybunny12 · 27/08/2012 11:36

Make tin foil hedgehogs to display the cocktail stick things (eg cheese and pineapple). Monster munch, skips and quavers. Iced party ring biscuits?

A blancmange bunny on a bed of line jelly, for grass. With optional raisins to denote its droppings.
