Nigella's clementine cake - advice needed

Okay, so I'm going to make Nigella's clementine cake tomorrow... I got the clementines - only 3 'cos they're quite big, but although they weigh 400g (she says about 375g) it just doesn't seem very much. & all those eggs! Does this cake really work?

I've only made this once when I was pg with DS2 and still had that metallic taste in my mouth, the cake reminded me of a dish sponge soaked in fairly liquid although DH assured me it was lovely. It has sort of put me off making it again though.
