How do I make a pink sponge cake? Colouring, flavouring or both?

I'm making a cake for my friend this week and I'd like to make something like the contestant, Natasha, made in GBBO.

So, if I make the sponge pink should I just add colouring or flavour it too.
?

I think it'd be lovely if the sponge tasted of strawberry or raspberry, can anyone help me with a recipe?

Ta very much.

You can just add red food colouring or I just made this strawberry cake - scaled down to 15cm tin. Took me a while to convert cups to grams then halving the recipe.

I cant comment yet on taste but think its far too sweet - just an amazing amount of sugar totally OTT. worked out 100g fresh strawberries (used value) but wonder if it packs a punch with taste.

You could use raspberry as well but you would have to sieve out the pips as raspberries dont work in cakes like strawberries.

Cob, the other day i bought in my local decorating shop, little bottles of flavourings, oils to be exact, raspberry, lemon, and orange, lovely in cakes, then it wouldnt alter the mixture too much, and always use gels or paste colourings, never the liquids.

Thanks bacon, I love the decoration on that one, really simple and pretty.

nanny you talk sense, I already have orange and peppermint so I could buy strawberry. I have some red gel which hopefully, used sparingly, will make a lovely pink.
