I like the answer to the question in that link mum1st! 'poisonous if eaten in great quantities' so if you cut off all the green bits, kept them and ate them all together then that isn't too good for you?

ok won't do that then!

spuds a spud, dh never notices!

Qoute 'spuds a spud' Love it!

Come on , do you seriously think that if eating old sprouting potatoes was really really dangerous, we wouldn't have heard about it by now? Think of all those tabloid headlines...

Uwila · 13/03/2006 14:40

So no one eats the sprouty bits alone then?

Just kiding, I pick them off.

PrincessPeaHead · 13/03/2006 14:44

plant them!

I got a very nice crop of Anya potatoes this way last year Grin

LucyLucyLonglegs · 13/03/2006 14:56

Well you get green bits in crisps....
Bet Walkers use sprouty potatoes.

well, did use my sprouty potatoes in the end, as they were only just starting to sprout and was no green colour. i have noticed as a few of you mentioned, baking potatoes do tend to sprout really quickly; not sure if you can prevent this?

Oh am glad I found this thread as I have always thrown sprouty taties in the bin but will not do that again. It was DP's Mum who said you shouldn't use them if they were sprouty. In fact threw 3 jacket potatoes away last night and they had only just begun to show sprout signs.

Have been thinking about buying a lakeland potato bag which is supposed to keep them fresher.I think its light and warmth which causes them to sprout.Mine do it after only a couple of days.I cut of the sprouts and use them.
