Anyone got the Lakeland waffle maker?

Caved in and bought it over the weekend. Love the machine but my waffles are like slightly sweet Yorkshire puddings and not crispy. Any clues?

Dd1 is on at me to get this but I'm not convinced.

I have never attempted waffles.
