Is my magic wand broken?

I haven't used my Braun Magic Wand (i.e. multiquick mixer) for a while, but have had reason to a couple of times in the past week. It is making a most horrible screeching noise - like fingernails on a blackboard amplified through MeatLoaf's sound system. Is it dead? If it wasn't a food-prep-device I'd be squirting it with WD40 but I'm not sure that would be safe. Has anyone else had this happen and is there a solution other than buying a new one?

Sounds like it's bearings have gone :( It will probably still work okay for a bit but the screeching may drive you nuts. I would WD40 it and just ensure any parts that come in contact with food are clean and oil free before using it again.

I've got one of these but have never used it.

What are they for exactly?

Mike - I use mine for blending soups and sauces, making milkshakes and smoothies and whisking egg whites.
