Finger foods

DD who is nearly 1 year has totally gone off jars/pouches/homecooked meals. She doesn't want to be spoon fed. She wants to be independent and feed herself with finger foods.

I'm really pleased that she's being independent but I'm nervous that shes not eating as much. Not that much seems to go in when she eats finger foods independently. Shes by no means underweight so there's no worries there

DH said I should stop making an 'issue' about it.

WWYD??

Just put normal food in front of her and let her get on with it. She'll do better than you think. Google Baby Led Weaning for more info.

Let her have some finger foods and don't worry too much that she is not eating as much. My DD experimented lots by playing with the food and it took her ages before she put anything in her mouth.

Try not to categorise 'finger foods' either. Just put any food on her plate and watch her explore, learn and eat Smile

DD can polish off bollanaise, curry, chilli cob carne, lasagna with her fingers and not guidance from me. She scoops it up with her hands or picks bits of it (now she has pincer grip)

If they're hungry, they'll find a way to eat. Trust your baby's instinct surrounding food.

And definitely read Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapely. You can start BLW at any time.
