Popcorn: can you make in microwave without fancy kit?

We love popcorn and currently do it in non stick pan, no oil and minimal extras put on. Mainly for less guilty big portions!

Washed out today as trying new medication and DH had a go at making. It was delicious but I wondered if there was a quicker way. Looking at the blowing hot air ones on ebay.... but there seem to be some microwave ones that are just bowls.....

Can you pop corn in a casserole dish for example in microwwave?

You can make your own microwave popcorn. You need a brown paper bag (like a paper lunch bag) and then just fold over the top and seal with a piece of sticky tape (no oil necessary). About a quarter cup of kernels should yield a big bowl's worth. I pop for about 1:30-2:00 (watch it carefully). Then you can top with melted butter or just leave it plain.

It's pretty quick in a pan tbh - 3-4 mins? Not sure it would be much better in a microwave.

Hope you are feeling better soon Smile

I have a popcorn maker which is great and I don't think they cost that much but tbh, I often still do it in a pan as it really is so easy - I think a microwave would not be any easier.

Nice one.... It seems that vents are very importnat so may look into....a hhh... just rememebred that DH (poor thing, he was mortified) broke my best casserole dish.... maybe I could look into one that has vents in the lids or soemthing.

I really want popcorn to fall into the 'healthy snack' rather than 'treat' as I am looking for things to enjoy eating as it helps with nausea and am keen not to pass on bad habits to DD. Also I am a big girl who needs to eat less calories....

Thing with opan is I can;t lift it and shaking it around is difficult - just cos of health/arm issues. Also liek microwave as our gas ring thing stays hot for ages and i can;t relax untill it cools down....

Might expereiment tomorrow....
