So DH has just told me that the DCs diet today has been rubbish. I disagree what do you think?

Ok so it's not exactly going to win awards for healthy day of the year but I genuinely don't think what they've eaten today is too bad.

Two Weetabix with raisins (and sugar)
Slice toast with marmite
Strawberry and banana smoothie

Lunch spaghetti bolognese which had mushrooms peppers onions, tomatoes in it as well as beef mince and some lentils and herbs
Muller fruit corner for pudding
Water to Drink

Large lemon curd cupcake at movie time (plus a lick of the bowl each)

Ham roll with crisps and grapes, another lemon cupcake and a glass of milk

It's not that bad is it?

Your dc even, sorry.

DilysPrice · 06/08/2012 18:42

It's a bit sugary for everyday and you wouldn't want to give ham too often, but I've seen (and fed my DCs) a lot worse.

Rubirosa · 06/08/2012 18:44

Of course sugar is bad for kids! What do you think causes childhood obesity?

Not that I think this menu was rubbish, lots of sugar is fine as a one off and the actual meals were fine.

TantrumsAndOlympicGoldBalloons · 06/08/2012 18:44

Oh Christ almighty what's wrong with ham now?

I swear my DCs would never have eaten anything if I had been on mumsnet when they were small.

In actual fact my dd lived on cheese for about 2 months. Just cheese.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 06/08/2012 18:45

Nothing wrong with ham surely? Surely?

Maybe a but salty but these dc ate not babies?

BellaVita · 06/08/2012 18:45

Well DS1 had..

Breakfast - strawberries
Lunch - tortillas and dips, handful of just baked sausage rolls
Dinner - chicken and prawn stirfry
Inbetween... Handful of grapes, handful of choc biscuits, bag of crisps and he is now going to have a warmed up home made brownie and icecream

I think what you have provided is absolutely fine.

nkf · 06/08/2012 18:45

It's all right. Not great but all right. And it is the school holidays. Tell him to pour you a glass of wine and put the kids to bed.

Northernlurker · 06/08/2012 18:46

I think the issue here is that the OP's dh has taken it upon himself to complain but not DO anything. Op - looks fine to me. My dcs have eaten crap today. My dh knows better than to say anything. All that sugar gives me lost of energy to rip his head off Grin (verbally not literally!)

TheCunningStunt · 06/08/2012 18:48

We have one cooked meal a day here to. Usually tea. Sanwhiches, or wraps or bento lunches(basically loads chopped up and thrown on a plate). Looks ok to me! It's the holidays! Mine have eaten crisps, Percy pigs, yoghurt, prawns, pad Thai, heaps of fruit(which is sugar) and they had waffles for breakfast. Pretty rubbish day. But they go back to school next week and it will be all back to dull normality.

usualsuspect · 06/08/2012 18:48

Sounds ok to me.

Who cooks twice a day?

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 06/08/2012 18:50

My 3yo had - chocolate squares cereal (with seconds)
cheese sandwiches
a Nuts about Caramel icecream
Spinach and ricotta filled pasta (not HOMEMADE because we don't have a nanny Wink )
A fruit corner type yoghurt
pear
orange juice
A finger of twix
He usually has more fruit TBF and he is as skinny as a rake.

Rubirosa · 06/08/2012 18:50

My ds today has eaten

Fruit and cocopops with a glass of orange juice for breakfast
Fishfingers, chips, beans and blackcurrant squash for lunch
Carrot cake and a cup of milk for tea
Not sure what he will have for dinner but probably not any of the vegetables I have lovingly prepared Hmm

nkf · 06/08/2012 18:51

I overcook and intend to stop.

mercibucket · 06/08/2012 18:51

By any chance did your dh come home in time for the sandwiches and actually mean 'my food is crap'?
Just put your dh in charge of meals for the rest of the hols - problem solved

AngryFeet · 06/08/2012 18:51

God you should see what my kids ate today:-

B - Chocolate weetaqbix x 2 for DD, Honey Loops for DS
L: McDonalds Shock
D: Pasta and cheese sauce
S: Box of strawberries each

RavenVonChaos · 06/08/2012 18:52

Tell DH to bugger off. Remember that there are children starving to death all over the world. Get a grip.

Northernlurker · 06/08/2012 18:52

Usual - I could claim to have cooked twice today. For lunch I prepared a smoked pork combination with a tomato jus served on a bread base. For tea dcs are eating cheddar encased in a toasted bread casing.

Yes that's hot dogs and cheese toasties Grin I am a shocking parent. They've had ice cream too.

Virgil · 06/08/2012 18:52

I think it's the two cupcakes plus crisps that have put it into the bad diet category in his eyes. But to be fair that was only because we made the cakes and they are so nice when they have just been baked.

I accept that the sugar could be cut out of the breakfast but DS2 isn't keen without the sugar and it's only half a teaspoon.

The muller fruit corner yogurts have less sugar in than the yeo valley yoghurts which were the other option in the fridge and which I would have considered "good" yoghurts.

I hate people who moan about the food other people have prepared. My ex was the world's biggest fusspot. I can still remember his pinched up face when he looked inside the saucepans or the day I served quiche.

clemetteattlee · 06/08/2012 18:54

Too many calories and too little exercise causes childhood obesity. It is simplistic to say it is sugar. It is inactivity, too much fat, too many refined carbs, too much fatty meat etc etc

Sugar is WAY better than sweeteners.

PacificDogwood · 06/08/2012 18:56

I think daddy needs to provide sustenancy and entertainment for his darling offspring for a month day Grin....

Sound not too bad to me, and positively brimming with health benefits compared to DS4(2.5)'s diet every day since he was weaned. Which is beige

TantrumsAndOlympicGoldBalloons · 06/08/2012 18:58

Better than cheese pacific just. Cheese.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner. For 2 months.

I kid you not.

clemetteattlee · 06/08/2012 19:00

Tantrums, we had that phase. It does pass.

ThePhantomDeregisterer · 06/08/2012 19:00

I assume he wasn't at home or he would've fed them too if it bothers him so much. Which then begs the question, how does he know what they ate to comment on?
