cooking with wine

if you cook with wine and heat it to boiling point, does that kill off all the alcohol?

yes

SenoraPostrophe · 08/03/2006 18:59

the alcohol evaporates quicker than water does, but still evaporates in a similar way, so it's not the amount of heat that's important, but how long you heat it for. Anything over I think 80 degrees for about 5 mins is anough for a splosh, longer if you've added half a bottle.

Did you just know that, SP? My answer would have been the same as tinkers' - yes (but no science Grin)

SorenLorensen · 08/03/2006 19:03

Aaargggh, I put an apostrophe in the wrong place - when talking to you. Typo, honest typo Blush

Tinker · 08/03/2006 19:04

Oi!

SorenLorensen · 08/03/2006 19:10

Oi what?

Tinker · 08/03/2006 19:13

I have PhD in cooking with wine, I'll have you know.

SenoraPostrophe · 08/03/2006 19:13

um, yes. I know everything, me. and that apostrophe has been noted.

actually it's because I use alcohol to cook with a lot and you can still taste it if it hasn't cooked for very long. and I have a really good memory for science lessons.

SorenLorensen · 08/03/2006 19:20

I have a PhD in drinking wine.

I'm so embarrassed about that apostrophe I may have to change my name again.

robinpud · 08/03/2006 19:26

Why boil away the alchohol? It's the best bit and the secret ingredient in most of my ccooking!

bubbly1973 · 08/03/2006 19:48
