Can I start my slow cooking on the hob?

I know some slow cookers you can begin cooking on the hob, so you can brown the meat etc first.

How do I know if I can do that with mine or not?

You usually do it in a separate pan while slow cooker is warming up.

Mine says very clearly in the instructions book that you can not ;)
So read the manual!

you can theoretically cook anything twice at two different temperatures regardless of what the instructions tell you. The question is what meat are you cooking?
