Frozen Fish Past its sell by - Okay to Eat ???

I was just pulling some mackerel out of the freezer to take to a BBQ later & found a bag of good frozen bone in proper fishmongers Tuna steaks - but they have a sell by date on the outer bag - can't say I've noticed that before, but tuna doesn't last that long around here for me to have noticed before, but these had fallen from sight/reach & were forgotten about?.. We tend to go by look, smell rather than SBD as I know they play very safe, so not sure what to do with these - seems a shame to waste them & they would be great on a BBQ :)

They are 6months+ out of date, look fine, no freezer trouble so I am sure they have been frozen solid the whole time?

Safe to eat or not ???

TIA

The sell by is for when they were fresh, it has nothing to do with it once its frozen. Of course they are fine.

They are probably fine. The main problems with keeping food in the freezer for too long is it seems to take on a freezer ish flavour. But after six month, it should be fine. You could marinade it before cooking it.

Brilliant, thats what I thought, but wanted to check just incase I was poisoning people.

The sell by date came on the frozen bag, thats what threw me out as I've not noticed one before - Yes, will be marinading

Thank You :)
