Sorry, hadn't read first post properly - duh! I'm sure gingerbread would last a long time. How about wrapping them in coloured foil and decorating that with sticky stars etc?

Nigella does a recipe, do you have her Dom Goddess book? If not I'll dig it out and post it. They are pepper cookies, ginger and black pepper!!

Most cookies will not taste great after being on a tree for a couple of weeks. As kids we used to make German Lebkuchen, then after Christmas put them in a tin with an apple to make them go soft again. Now I prefer to make nice cookies and eat them, and put salt dough on the tree
