Chocolate 'victoria sponge'?

I want to make DD a chocolate cake for her birthday party . Can I just add cocoa powder to a victoria sponge recipe and if so, how much and do I need to adjust the amount of flour? If I make it on Saturday will it still be fresh enough on Sunday (day of party) or should I make it v. early on Sunday? Thank you Smile.

i take out a couple of tablespoons of flour and replace with the cocoa.

and saturday for sunday should be fine.

Hope she has a good day!

For a basic chocolate victoria sponge substitute 1 oz cocoa powder (or 30 gms) for the same amount of flour.
A cake made on Saturday will be absolutely fine on Sunday (put it in a cake tin).

Thanks both. Now all I need is for the party invitees to turn up....

mejon, if you make a denser choccy sponge you can make it a few days earlier, i made one yesterday, decorated it tonight, picking it up tomorrow night , then to be eaten wed.

Thanks for the tip nannycook - don't want to get too ahead of myself though. I think I can manage a VS but don't trust myself not to make too much of a mess of anything more complicated.
