Ideas for Fussy 6 year old

Hello all

I am new to this site - looks fabulous and am excited!

I have a VERY fussy 6 year old. I would love some help and advice on what I can feed her. She won't eat fruit or veg - well she nibbles at apples and carrots that's about it. Potatoes are a minefield! I watched a Supernanny episode yesterday which had this fab idea for getting children to try the different food groups - the reward placemat. I suppose I am looking for some ideas for balanced meals. And also healthy snacks. She is ALWAYS hungry when she comes in from school and it's about an hour until we do tea.

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi carrie.

For snacks what about malt loaf? It's healthy but looks like cake. My dd (also six) loves raisins to snack on as well, and slices of cheese and ham.

Can't help with fruit and veg avoidance, though my dd will eat more raw fruit and veg if it is cut up and artfully presented.

My 6yo won't eat any fruit at all, not even dried fruit. School snack is carrot sticks every single day as they have to have 'fruit'! He won't eat potatoes either. As he gets older though his tastes seem to be widening and he'll now eat pasta with pesto or tomato sauce, cous cous, and is starting to like spicy flavours ie teryaki chicken.

As for after school snack, it's usually biscuits, crackers or pretzels
