bout a lovely bunch of celery a few days ago, already did a nice chicken and veg stew/soup, and and a similar with beef, but still got loads left and really dont want to waste it!
Am snacking on it ( each time i see it!) but need some more ideas of what to do with it before it wilts away!

I keep celery a good couple of weeks in the fridge. I usually add a stick (chopped finely) to any stew/ spag bol etc. and fry it up with the onion/ garlic, gives a lovely flavour. Doesn't matter if it's droppy when you cook it, the flavour is still there (use leaves too).

MerryMarigold · 28/06/2012 11:09

That'll be droopy, not droppy, though they are probably similar

Celery and philly pinwheels are yum. Marks and Spencer do a lovely sandwich with cheddar and philly and celery so I would try to make that.

Use it to to stir a nice Bloody Mary. It's a breakfast drink so you can have it before noon.

I also like it cut up in pasta salads and in tuna and mayo sandwiches.

I love celery sticks dipped in a good ranch dressing, yum!

My SIL does a lovely celery, carrot and green lentil pasta dish - fry veg and add loads of garlic, lob in lentils and use a couple of veg stock cubes with a half litre of water, add some thyme and serve up with pasta

Slice thinly and stir-fry with chicken/prawns and chilli. The only way to eat celery.

You can also braise celery and serve it as a side dish in its own right. It's really delicious, it cooks down to be very soft and almost sweet.

Braised celery - as above. Nice.

Also celery soup is delicious. Add a bit of stock, pepper and bingo. Virtually cal free too.

my mum used to make a baked celery and tomato dish - skin some tomatoes, chop up celery, dot with knobs of butter and ground salt and pepper, stick in the oven for around an hour. this is AMAZING with roast pork.

Make a salad with chopped celery, oranges, spring onions, peanuts and mayo (or yogurt) and you can add sultanas if you like. Nice with baked potatoes and a green salad.
