I would love to know some interesting recipes anyone has...

I have this book which is BRILLIANT, hundreds of recipes for everything you could ever want plus the history and science of ice-cream for the geek inside me. I think there is an updated version but haven't bothered with it yet.

Our favourite recipes from it are:
Banana
Strawberry and balsamic
Easy vanilla which reminds me of the local ice-cream shop of my childhood and can have all sorts of things added to it a la Ben and Jerrys - crushed up Amaretti biscuits being fantastic

I will come back later with the family recipe for Mint Choc Chip :)

Enjoy

A bit of an odd mixture of metric and imperial but it tastes great :)

3/4pint double cream (the rest usually gets used in carbonara!)
7fl oz milk
150g castor sugar
2 teasp peppermint essence (if its the cheapie supermarket stuff)
100g chopped chocolate (Bournville seems to work best for the correct melting vs rock hard appeal)
Few drops green food colouring (optional but DH insists it tastes better when its green Hmm)

  1. Dissolve sugar in milk by sticking it in microwave
  2. Combine everything else apart from the chocolate and cool
  3. Stick in ice-cream machine and churn
  4. When putting it into storage tub stir in chocolate

Mmmmm, I need ice-cream now :)

I have the same book as feetheart (as well as about 10 other ice cream recipe books).
Don't bother with others - Ice: The Definitive Guide is all you need. At least for the first few years. The recipes are wonderful and work a treat every single time.
Our favourite is also the banana.
There's another thread a bit further down looking for mintchocchip recipes - feetheart I think you should link her the book also (sorry - can't link I'm on phone).
Enjoy your icecream maker smearedinfood - mine is my absolute favourite kitchen 'thing'.

We were given an ice cream maker as a wedding present last year - so far I've only managed two flavours! But the caramel is so amazing that everyone just asks me to make that all the time.

One tin of ready prepared caramel
One carton of double cream
The same amount of milk as cream

Whack it all in the ice cream maker and leave it to do the business - delicious with banana and toffee sauce - yum!

Hey Thanks! I'm looking at getting the book but I've seen that they brought out an updated version of it and not sure which one of the two to get.. Any ideas?
