Black butter icing

Is it possible to get butter icing truly black, not grey? Am using gel colouring but still to no avail.

Try icing gel or the canned icing?

The icing colour gel in liquirce is pure black and kind of a glossy black a little goes a long way

I am not sure. i once tried to make a cake of a pint of guiness and to get it black enough looked fine but we nearly puked when we ate it

If you want to make black buttercream you need to start with chocolate buttercream and then add the black paste.

Thanks for your replies. On googling I did find mentioned starting off with cocoa powder in the buttercream first before adding black colouring. I have tried to find black buttercream already prepared but no such luck . . .
