it realy depends on how religious a person is ..my dh is jewish but eats everything..they`re not supposed to eat shellfish either as they cant eat anything that doesnt have eyes or scales therefore there are certain types of fish they cant eat either...hope that helps

The prohibition comes from Torah, in the book Leviticus, Chapter 11, verses 2 through 8, in particular, verse 7:

DH is jewish and eats pork. Hasnt been in a synagogue in year though. His father would eat bacon, but called it 'fish' and it would be kept in a special part of the fridge. His mother wouldnt eat any pork products. Have another friend who is not practising at all, but is pretty much Kosher,no pork, shell fish etc but just doesnt eat it because he was not brought up with it around.

Theoretically no. And they should leep meat and dairy separate (that can mean plates, cutlery, right down to washing up sinks) but like most things, it depends on how observant the particular Jew is. The most Observant Jews would probably not eat at your house if that is the issue, as they don't like to have plates that have had dairy / meat mixed on, although I do know of situations where that has been resolved successfully with dispoable cutlery / crockery.

But Jewish does mean a community, and people who don't follow the religious Law would stil often see themselves as Jewish because it's a birthright thing, not like (eg) Christianity, where you either are a believer or not.
