Fish: need some quick advice for tonights dinner

I defrosted some fish yesterday on the counter and then didn't feel like cooking so put it back into the fridge. Will it still be ok to cook 1 day later?

Fish can be dodgy!
If it was frozen when you bought it and it went straight in the frezer it is safer than if you had bought it fresh and then frozen it.
How long did you leave it out to defrost for, and how warm was your kitchen?
Ideally it should be defrosted in the fridge so that no warm spots could have developed.
Bacteria multiply every 20 minutes.
I would bin it personally, but I am rather fussy!!

It was fresh when I bought it, and then partly defrosted before I put it back in the fridge. I'm fussy about these things too especially fish and chicken, so I might take your advice and bin it or even better it could be an expensive cats dinner!

If you froze it on the day of purchase then it will be absolutely fine.

Fish is better the fresher it is, but it is not dangerous to eat really until it starts to smell strongly or starts to look/feel odd - after about a week in our house.

There will be a bit of bacteria as Norma says, but not enough to worry about.
