Can I freeze a swiss roll filled with buttercream? Trying to get a headstart on DS's birthday cake...

Don't see why not. I froze some birthday cake a few months back. Unfortunately the freezer was quite full and it got a bit squashed. It was filled with buttercream, and was fine. As it was squashed I used it in trifle!

Thanks. Wasn't sure if the buttercream would "melt" into the sponge as it was defrosting. Will give it a go (and follow your example of using it for trifle if it doesn't work out!).

Probably best to put it in the fridge to defrost and then gradually bring to room temperature near when you want to eat it.

Shall await your verdict on success :)
