Root Veg Soup?

I'm putting together a root veg soup (parsnip, carrot, jerusalem artichoke and black salsify, onion, chicken stock, yes, it is a veg box thing, before you ask, cod :-P). Because all the veg are quite sweet, I'm wavering between adding garam masala for flavour, or maybe just fresh-grated nutmeg and even a bit of cinnamon? I'll probably add a bit of milk near the end, maybe. Opinions?

I'd go with garammasala and cinamon, but only if you've got sticks rather than powder.

Bung in a bit of grated ginger and garlic along with the onion? What a good idea. Must do the same with our parsnip, carrot, jerusalem artichoke and black salsify - we even have chicken stock made by DP in the freezer.

The delivery bloke was of A&C's usual high standard, too

The Waitrose root veg soup (delish by the way) has cumin added to it.

Damn I hate black salsify. All that work, for what?

The soup came out pretty well, though. I ended up using garam masala and freshly grated cinnamon. The kids really liked it, DS2 was covered in soup. (He does like pureed starchy soups.)

I didn't want to use ginger and garlic, because a) by then it was too late and b) I was using ginger and garlic for the other dish. But otherwise, it was much like yours will be, MI, including chicken stock from the freezer.

More ideas are always good, I hope not to get such a root-veg-tastic box in future, but I'm always struggling with jerusalem artichokes.

Now I just have to work out what to do with the aubergines ... might make a Moroccan dish, with tomato, chick pea and spinach, only I'd have to buy spinach.

Are they big ones? Hollow them out, then fill with keema lamb and bake in the oven.
