Urgent help needed for fruit cake

I'm making a fruit cake for someone's birthday and if doesn't seem to be cooking properly. It's the delia Xmas cake recipe and I've made it twice before with no problem but it's been in far longer than it should have and still not 'set'.

It was in for 6 hrs last night at gm1 then I took if out and went to bed. Realised it was undercooked when I got up this morning si put it back in for an hour. Just checked and it's still not done so put it back in again.

It was on a low shelf which does make a big difference in our oven so moved to a higher shelf now. Also removed the paper from the outside of the tin.

Do you think it'll be ok, or should I start again?

What temp is the oven on at? Could your oven be faulty? I would give it another half hour to hour checking every 10 mins.

It's on gas mark 1 which is what the recipe says. However with it being a gas oven it stays cooler at the bottom than the top. The recipe says to out it on the lowest shelf so I did, but thinking about it I think I should have out it higher up as in fairly sure I did on previous occasions when it baked fine. It's higher up now and I'll keep checking on it. Just don't want it ruined by keeping stopping and starting the cooking process. It's my nana's 90th birthday cake so the whole family will be eating it - the pressure!

I don't know much about gas ovens. Is it done now?

Hi I put it back in for another hour or so on the top shelf and it eventually looked done. Thanks for your advice.
